Cream Tea Beauty at The Bill

It seems like everytime I think of writing this blog, I have been to Portland Bill.  It's the cream tea that keeps pulling me back.

Jam first or cream first?
Of course, Jam first.

Very quiet up here today - just how I like it.

With a view like this where can you go wrong?

It was rather quiet there today which of course, is a bonus, though they did take a little too long with the cream tea and so the clotted cream was a bit runny by the time we got to it because of the heat.  I will say though that the tea they serve up is a delicious cuppa - so much nicer than at other places where they try and fob you off with lower quality tea bags.  I luuuuurve drinking tea and on a peaceful sunny day like today I could sit there all day and sip away to my hearts content.

Blustery Bill

Popped over to Portland Bill today to blow away the cobwebs.  Phew - windy windy windy.  The sea was being well and truly whipped up.  Sea water spraying right across the peninsula - it was like standing in a salty cloud.  Great fun though.

Sun was peeking through the clouds when we arrived...
but stayed in for the rest of the visit.

It was a shame to notice as we were leaving that the lighthouse visitor centre was closed.  Is that a permanent thing or just for the winter season?
A lovely refreshing visit.

The Old Harbour on Olympic Sunday 29th July 2012.

Wandered around the old harbour yesterday afternoon.  Weymouth is at it's best at this time of year and especially now with the olympics.
The first unusual thing we noticed was the Weymouth brass concert band playing to each other across the town bridge when it was opening at 2pm.  This is part of the b-side festival that is currently going on in Weymouth.
We then walked down the harbour arm and had an excellent view of the Olympic sailing event.  Sat on the beach for a while and soaked up the sun and atmosphere.
Then wandered back to Brewers Quay where a great band was playing live outside the Red Lion.  The atmosphere again, was superb with people of all ages dancing in the street.
A fantastic, gloriously sunny, Olympic Weymouth day.

Yummy Breakfast at Taste.

Popped down to the Chesil Beach Cafe on Sunday morning and had a yummy breakfast at Taste.
Hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows for one daughter with a bacon baguette and toasted tea cake and apple juice for the other.  My husband had a full English and I had a small English.   Service was great, food was delicious and the views were fantastic.  This was the view in front of us - we were sat by the window!
After eating and enjoying the visitor centre we went for a walk up and over the bank to see the sea.

The visitor centre is now run by the Dorset Wildlife Trust and has a number of interactive activities within it and of course the obligatory shop.  It is well worth a visit.
Parking was 80p an hour - not sure if that's winter prices or all year round.  Seemed very popular with families, dog walkers, fisherfamilies (as opposed to fishermen!) and bird watchers.

Yummy Pancakes in Weymouth

Took the kiddies to see Jack the Giant Slayer today (which I thought was very good) and then treated them all to a yummy pancake cooked by Laszlo and Agnes at their new stall located in The Pasty Parlour on St Mary Street.  Tasted delicious.  I will return and take photos.  The prices are really tasty too.

Welcome to my new blog.

I've often thought about beginning this blog.  Having lived in Weymouth for many years now, I have always enjoyed the life that the area and people who live in it have given me.  The place is a beautiful and thriving place to be in and the people are so friendly; it really is a hidden gem.  Whether it will continue to be so hidden after the Olympics is, of course, another matter.

The intent behind this blog is to share some of the areas and events that you might not read about elsewhere or to simply give another viewpoint.  I shall review places that I have visited or eaten at honestly and I shall share some of the fun and possibly disappointments from local places, establishments and events.

Maybe you will hear about places that you never realised existed.

The blog name - Weymouth Wonders.
This is to convey that , of course, Weymouth is wonderful and also to describe how the blog will contain  my thoughts and wonderings on what I am seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting etc.

I had considered calling it Wandering around Weymouth as I would be commenting after my wanders.  As the two words are very close in spelling, I could always pretend that I have made a typo on some occasions.

Anyway, I will be wondering whilst I am wandering and I will be sharing some of my wonders with anyone who stumbles or wanders across them and would like to read them.
